Starting A
Need of Family Support in Businesses
By: Tristan Andrews
Because prices and even the price of education are rising steadily, most families with average income need to have both parents work to keep up with their lifestyle. One parent of average income working and providing for his family by himself does not bring enough money to the table. So for a family who wants to live comfortably with enough savings, both parents have to work to provide for the whole family. The time will come that work and family will blend. As I look at it, this blurring is brought about by three factors namely; the need of the family to have a decent income to support their families, technology advancement that makes it impossible for parents to enjoy time with their family and a decrease in job security which means that more parents are thinking of starting their own small businesses that, like when working with a company, is dividing the time between work and their families.
Although starting their small businesses is a good advice to most families, the familys support comes into play and can ultimately make or break a business. Here are some problems that might come up within a family who owns or is thinking of starting their own business.
Attention given to starting a small business can produce jealousy within the family. A spouse might be jealous that the other partner is giving so much time to the business, or the children might be questioning why their parents are devoting so much of their time to it. This can cause disharmony within the family, but if the family understands the business requires attention, then it can make a big difference.
Starting a small business requires money. It might mean that some of the familys income will have to be given up to start the business. Still, some family members might or might not understand the importance of this.
Enthusiasm of person in charge of the business is directly influenced by the reaction of the family towards the business. Starting a business means it will take a lot of attention and energy for it to survive, but if not all family members are supportive, where would the person in charge of the business get his support? So, family support is very important in the success of ones business.
Working with your partner in a family business can enhance your relationship and both of you can enjoy the success at the same time.
